How it works

How do AI chatbots work? And how ours only answers from your facts

Most chatbots are built to sound helpful, so they fill gaps with guesses. Yours reads your own website, answers from what it found, and hands everything else to you.

The short version

How AI chatbots work, in four sentences

An AI chatbot uses a language model to understand a question written in everyday words and to write a reply.

On its own, a language model answers from whatever it learned in training, which is why general chatbots sometimes invent details about a business.

A chatbot built for a business website first gathers the facts that business has published, then writes its answer from those facts. This approach is often called retrieval-augmented generation, or RAG.

Ours adds one rule: if the facts don't cover the question, it doesn't answer it. It tells the customer someone will get back to them and passes the question to you.

Four steps

Live on your website in an afternoon

  1. It reads your website

It reads up to 10 of your most useful pages straight away: services, prices, hours, the area you cover. Sign up and it reads the rest. When your site changes, re-read it or add pages from your dashboard.

  2. You check what it learned

See every fact with the page it came from. Anything missing is listed as a gap, and you can fill it with a quick answer of your own.

  3. You test it

Read its answers to the questions your kind of business really gets. Correct any answer in one click, and your correction outranks your website from then on.

  4. It goes live

Paste one line into your website, or share a hosted chat link. New leads reach you by text and email, and a person is always one tap away for your customers.

Chatbot hallucination

What chatbot hallucination is, and how this one avoids it

A hallucination is a confident answer with nothing true behind it: a price, a policy or an opening time the chatbot made up because it sounded right. On your website, that answer becomes your promise.

A customer asks: “Do you give a discount to seniors?”

A chatbot that guesses

“Yes! We offer 10% off all services for seniors.”

Nothing on the website mentions a discount. The customer now expects one, and you're left to explain.

Your assistant

“I can't see a senior discount on our website, so I don't want to guess. Can I take your name and number? Someone will confirm and get back to you.”

No fact covers the question, so it says so, takes their details and hands it over.

Why you can trust it

Six checks between a question and an answer

These are what stop yours giving a confident answer with nothing behind it.

  • Answers come from your facts

Answers are built from what it found on your site, and it records which facts it used for each reply.

  • It says when it doesn't know

If nothing it knows covers a question, it tells the customer someone will get back to them and passes the question to you.

  • Your corrections win

An answer you write yourself is ranked above anything it read on your website.

  • Tested before launch

You see its answers to real customer questions before it meets a single customer.

  • Checked after launch

Answers it wasn't sure of are listed for you to confirm or correct, along with facts on your site that contradict each other.

  • Measured, not claimed

Hold back a small share of visitors from seeing it, and your Results page shows how many more got in touch because of it.

When it hands over

It knows when a person should take over

When it hands a conversation to you, you get a text and an email within seconds, with what the customer asked.

What it reads

What it reads, and what it leaves alone

It learns only from what you publish and what you tell it.

It uses

  • The public pages of your website: services, prices, hours, areas and policies
  • Pages you add or remove yourself from your dashboard
  • Answers you write for questions your site doesn't cover
  • Your opening hours and your settings, such as whether it may quote prices

It never uses

  • Other websites, or general searches of the web
  • Password-protected or private pages
  • Guesses about your prices, policies or availability
  • Anything about another business

Where it works

Add it to any website in minutes

One line of code, pasted once. We watch for it loading on your site and confirm it's live.

Can't edit your website?

Use your hosted chat page instead: a link for your Google Business Profile, your email signature, an ad or a text reply. Same assistant, nothing to install.

Questions

Common questions

What is an AI chatbot and how does it work?

An AI chatbot is software that understands questions written in everyday language and replies in kind. A business chatbot like ours first gathers the business's own published facts, then writes its answers from them, and hands over anything they don't cover.

What is AI hallucination?

It's when an AI states something with confidence that isn't true, such as a price, policy or date it made up. It happens when a model fills a gap in what it knows with something that merely sounds likely.

How often do AI chatbots hallucinate?

It depends on the model and on what the chatbot is allowed to answer from. A chatbot answering from general training data has plenty of room to invent; one limited to a business's own facts, that hands over whatever those facts don't cover, has far less. Ours is also tested on your real questions before launch.

How do you stop a chatbot making things up?

Limit it to your own facts, make it say when it doesn't know, test it on real questions, and review the answers it wasn't sure of. Ours does all four.

What is a RAG chatbot?

RAG stands for retrieval-augmented generation: the chatbot looks up relevant information first, then writes its answer from it, instead of relying on what the model remembers. Ours reads your website into a set of facts and answers from those.

What happens when the chatbot doesn't know the answer?

It tells the customer it doesn't want to guess, takes their name and a way to reach them, and sends the question to you by text and email.

Does it update when I change my website?

Re-read your site from your dashboard, or add the page that changed, and it picks up the new information. You can also correct a single fact in a click.

Can it book appointments?

Yes. Give it the booking page you already use, such as Calendly, Acuity or Square, or connect Google Calendar and it offers real free times.

What languages does it speak?

It replies in the language the customer writes in, answering from your website's facts.
